For over thirty years, MARILYN SWIFT has painted on Cape Ann with watercolor. Marilyn was introduced to Cape Ann by a painting instructor, and was immediately captured by the area's scenic beauty. Working outdoors on location continues to be Marilyn's primary inspiration.
Since 1974 she has resided in East Gloucester. Yet only eight years ago her current studio was completed, a total transformation of the building behind her house that had originally been a horse barn. She has been a participant in the Cape Ann Artisans Open Studio Tours since 2001.
Affordable works depicting the local landscape will be featured during tour weekends, as well as paintings from Monhegan Island, Maine. In addition, having just returned from two painting trips to France, she will be showing her plein air work of the countryside near Lyon as well as the French Riviera, the Cote d'Azur east of Nice. Some work from her previous years' trips to Italy (Rome, Umbria, and Cinque Terra) will also be on exhibition.
At the first summer 2007 members show of the North Shore Arts Association, she was awarded a prize of excellence for her painting "Rower". Another watercolor, a Monhegan Island landscape, was selected for exhibition at the Hudson Valley Arts Association annual juried show in New York City, which continues until June 28th at the National Arts Club.
She is also an exhibiting artist member of several other art organizations, including the Rockport Art Association, the New England Watercolor Society, and The Copley Society of Boston, and is also listed in the Marquis Who's Who in America.
Locally her work is represented by the Summer House Gallery in Rockport and The Walsingham Gallery in Newburyport.

Visitors are welcome all year.
